Man accused of bilking elderly couple out of $30,000

Back to Scam Reports BACK

October 01, 2003 – A bogus newspaper ad in the Oregonian tricked a Tigard couple out of more than $30,000. Washington County detectives say 38-year old Anthony Mattsen conned the elderly couple in 2001 by claiming he was a writer and needed a loan for living expenses until his book was published. Detectives say Mattsen claimed there would be a quick turn around on the loan and he offered a high rate of return. Detectives think other people may be victims of his scam. Mattsen remains in the Washington County Jail. (KATU - Portland)
