San Diego, CA, June14, 2007—The National Ethics Bureau’s new membership standards were publicized on the Internet, informing consumers and financial professionals of NEB’s new eligibility standards for new and renewing members.
On May 24, 2007, the announcement went out on the Internet where it was later published by Internet services such as Google, Morever, firstRain, Topix.net, and BusinessWire.com.
According to the announcement, effective June 1, 2007, new NEB applicants who have been declared bankrupt within four years of their application date will not be considered for membership. Also effective June 1, NEB will disclose to consumers a member’s history of settlements and administrative-type violations.
The new settlement and administrative violation disclosures will apply to all new applicants effective June 1 and to existing NEB members as they re-apply for membership, with the transition completed by June 1, 2008.
“We are raising the bar for membership,” said NEB Chairman Steven R. McCarty. “This should further increase the quality of member advisors, increase the reputation of our organization, and further increase the confidence of consumers nationwide.”
